Sycamore shows curly figure characteristic to this tree with shiny texture like silk. There is no tree species ever before that makes feel of creation committed to the life of tree. It has been prized by the royal aristocracy as “the tree of king” from the ancient Roman era, and has been used for interior decoration of the British royal family ship and for Stradivarius violin making. The material shows white to yellowish white throughout, and the boundary between core material and sapwood is unclear. It changes to amber color of soft texture as time passes. The grain runs almost straight, but the grain lines are disturbed due to the bumps and unevenness that occurs in the trunk, and the curly figure appears as the tree age gets older. And, it show very fine wood texture. The fluctuation of texture and fine skin produces sparkle and shine that brings silky texture. Also around the interspersed pin knot (leaf node), distinctive shine is produced from the disturbance of the wood texture, giving the silky skin more transparency.
